My drawing style developed as a young boy. I was born in St. Asaph, North Wales and went to school in the area until moving to England to earn undergraduate honors degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics from the University of Birmingham. Subsequently I moved to Paris, France and lived there for six years during which time I was honored to have my first show of Indian ink and brush paintings on Canson paper. This Paris exhibition depicting “The Body as Architecture” was sponsored and curated by Dr. Caroline Boyle-Turner, the art historian, Gauguin scholar and founder/former director of the Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art in France.
I was encouraged by my family, however, to follow the path of engineering and earned my graduate degrees in engineering from Northeastern University, a field that I worked in for over 30 years while I was busy raising a family in New England.
My love for art and creating unique paintings finally came full circle in 2007 when I met International award winning artist, Sharon Morley, APS. Sharon saw something in the extensive collection of Indian ink paintings that I had created over the years and encouraged me to put color to them. I never looked back. Now a full time artist, I spend my days creating works of art I hope will speak to people in the depth of their being bringing light to the imagination, the mind and the eyes.
I am very proud of the recently completed series of large oil paintings titled “The Cycle of Life”. These paintings depict the seven stages we all go through as we experience life which are: Special; Invincible; Pressure; Vulnerable; Fragile; Acceptance; and finally Wisdom and Preparation. Other series include “On The Road” which depict my impressions of the Western United States; “Maine” which include paintings created on Monhegan Island and around the Penobscot Bay area; “Women as Architecture”; “Places”; and “Abstracts”.
